Default Which 1/2" socket set ???

Hi looking at this socket set off the snap on for £80 plus vat

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blue-Point-1-2...ools_Equipment

Are there any others i should be looking at? its for home use, must be 6 sided sockets and like the fact that it has a 27 30 and 32 in it for oil filter housings and hub nuts. I did look at the halfords one a few months back but cant remember why i didnt go for it.

These Facom ratchets are quite nice, not a bad price here for a set up to 32mm

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Facom-S-2P...ools_Equipment

I have some bluepoint tools as back ups but they aren't exactly snap on quality.

Bluepoint is wank.

Depends how hard you are planning on going, but I'd get halfords pro sockets with a snap-on dual-80 ratchet

We used Facom at work and they where real good.

For me it`s only cheap tools, as they get lost all the time

bluepoint isnt wank at all they are good for home use, i wouldnt recomend them for full time mechanic use but they are certainly great for home/hobbie use, facom are a name you hear in the trade but they are a marmite type brand you either love them or hate them but i havnt tried them before so cant tell you if they are good or not.

if you want the best get snap on but they do come with a larger price tag

Sorry, but that is bogus info. Blue point hand tools have lifetime warranty.

I have used a variety of these for some time, facom, snap on and Sykes picavant all seem to be very well made and when the ratchet on my facom wrench gave in they just swapped it no questions asked. With tools I have found athe you pay for what you get. and that includes a lifetime waranty!

I have a complete hatred of teng tools, use them at work and they rust to bits, chrome flakes off and a generally useless, although i am working in an offshore marine environment. but clean the tools after use and give them a squirt of wd40 they still seize up all the time.

Britool fare a lot better and have a nice smooth ratchet operation, and generally dont seize.

At home I'm using magnusson?? got them from b&q and its one of the best socket sets i've ever used. although its not 6 sided like your looking for, Its had a lot of use over the last year and has really done well and vever failed me, I'm very very impressed with it.

Blue Point is very good stuff, and is covered by life time guarantee. I use my Blue Point stuff all day every day at work and can vouch for its durability, although the ratchets aren't a patch on proper Snap On. Although, saying that, they are certainly a lot cheaper. I would have to say it'd be all Snap On in my box if I could afford it. But I can't, and Blue Point is just as good in many ways.
