1'st start-up (hopefully)
Hi, newbee here, I have a standard 2wd crystal blue saph with the exception of a scorpion stainless exhaust and pipercross induction kit which I have owned for 15 years with a genuine 98,000 on the clock. The head was lightly skimmed 19 years ago according to my documentation and a grp A head gasket fitted and it's still in there.
The car has been off the road for 8-9 years and was tucked away in a council garage in St Andrews where I used to live. It's now home where it belongs in a heated garage and I'm looking for some advice on starting it for the 1'st time. It was actually started 5 years ago and fired up albeit a bit rough and after I got it transported to my new home 6 months ago I couldn't resist attempting to start it - it cranked ok (5 secs) but didn't fire up. Pool of petrol below the pump\filter area! It was left at that.
I have a "recommended" guy coming to the house on sat 13'th Oct to carry out some preliminary work before attempting to fire it up. I work with some of the most dangerous chemicals on the planet manufacturing drugs in reactors - legal drugs! but I'm too scared to attempt a timing belt!
1: New timing belt and tensioner pulley.
2: New inner crank timing pulley + crank sensor.
3: New water pump.
4: New thermostat.
5: New ACT, water temp sensor and water temp sender.
6: New dizzy cap and rotor.
7: New plugs and leads.
8: New fuel pump + filter.
9: Oil filter + oil.
10: Drain fuel tank.
11: Drain water system.
Can anyone offer and advice\tips before turning that key for the 1'st time?
Many many thanks in advance, great site, John.

If you take hte distributor out, you can spin the small hex drive (Use a drill) to get oil pressure up in the engine.
Take the tubo oil feed off whilst doing this to ensure you are getting good oil pressure.
It's also worth changing all your sensors - the likes of Matt Lewis and Motorsport Developments can do sensor kits to suit your car.

Thanks for the reply, I have already bought an ACT, ECT and water temp sender from Matt Lewis, I also have a new crank sensor, the TPS and phase sensor were replaced not long before it went off the road. I was going to disconnect the injectors and crank the engine with the turbo oil feed loosened to check pressure - is it ok to do it this way?

You can crank it that way, but a drill on the oil pump drive will give you far greater pressure. That's how we have primed any freshly built YBs or ones that haven't been started in a long tim.
