Default any disadvantages of using a 2wd water pump instead of a 4x4 item?

I am running a 200 block in the fiesta, and i am not using any heater matrix or standard oil modine cooler set up,

The 4x4 water pumps seem to be about £120 on average and the 2wd pumps £65 on average, as i have the choice of using either i wondered if there was any benefit of using one over the other? Or am i forgetting anything?

I see it as the 2wd water pump is cheaper to buy new, the thermostat housing is available new still from burtons and i wont have to mess around with the awkward small hose joiner you have on the 4x4 thermostat housing to water pump.

I have been told it does not matter that the 2wd is a 2 bolt housing (although there were some 3 bolt versions made) as the holes line up and will still seal with the gasket so no problem there,

Can anyone else point out anything i am missing etc as this is my first cossie engine so got a lot to learn.

do the 2wd and 4wd water pumps flow the same and is it true that the pinto water pump and cosworth pump are the same?

thanks
Marc

the 4x4 setup was an evolution of the 2wd setup to increase effieciency so it should be better but i cant see any real major disadvantage to using the 2wd setup
allthough i cant say they are exactly the same flow wise etc... the pinto and 2wd waterpumps do appear to be identical in my experience
general traffic sell pinto waterpumps for £35 + vat to the trade i had one a few weeks back for a transit i was working on

4x4 set up is supposed to be better and is the same as what the RS500's ran.

Pinto water pumps usually have plastic impellars, the 2wd cossie one has a metal one.

My Escos runs a 2wd pump (as it has 10 long studs) and although I was concerned about flow at the time it has proved perfectly upto the job on a 700hp car

The 4wd pump has a much larger area for pumping, but as said a 2wd set up in good order can be used no problem.
