Intercooler does not restrict power, it can help lower ACT'S but unless you have high ACT'S then I don't see the point in changing myself at least thats the theory I had when I was asking myself the same question!
I do however understand if your constantly driving the car hard (Track car) for example where ACT'S may increase.
4x4 is 25% bigger than 2WD.

Intercooler will restrict power ultimately, if it can't keep the ACT's at a useable level so much ignition would need to be knocked off.
A 4wd one is around 25% larger surface area, but all depends on what power you want, I wouldn't go more than say stage 1, 270/280 on a 2wd, and 320/330(stage 3) on a 4wd, at the sort of temps we normally get in the uk in the summer, if we get a summer that is!!.
If you intend to go more than this or use the car very hard even a 4wd at 320/330 is going to be on the limit, I'd be getting a RS500 type, pure physics larger surface area = more cooling, so if hot enough air temps when driving hard you could have trouble, RS500 type is a nice bit of extra security that is fine for most, but not for the fastest bus pass holder Rod, these of course need custom made ones due to the metal power they run, to ensure low enough ACT's.
