Just spoke to mcrash and he said Mark at Grove said you don't need the double valve springs.

Pete i have never seen worse than 11:8 AFR under full throttle and thats even when it holds 30psi loaded up in 4th/5th up a hill. Then it will sit at 16:1 AFR when cruising/part throttle at 90mph in 5th.

Taking my car all that way to get Ahmed to map it was the best thing i ever did, if i never go for more power i will go on to T2 and drive it back down again to him even if i have to wait 3months to get a mapping slot.

They have several advantages, they are already work hardened having been used previously, and price.
I can get a regrind for Ł60 to whatever spec from my machinists, used these on my pinto and x flow as well as celica, a series(x3) never had a issue with wear on any.

I'll just take the cam along when I drop my pistons off on friday, at machine shop, can look on the board and see what grind copies they have at the same time.
I already have modded head, hopefully raising CR to nearer 8.5 at same time, maybe even higher if I'm lucky.

The trouble is getting Ahmed to do it now, he's back working at Ford on Mega money so doesn't actually need to do anything else. The other thing is alot of the cars that come in for Mapping end up needing loads more work on top. I think my car was the last he mapped on Greys.

Your best off giving them a ring and asking the question, i had alot done at the time of getting it mapped [suspension work, cam, swapping ECU] so cant remember the definite price just for the mapping. They arent mega expensive though.

They want Ł214+Vat to regrind a pair of cams and Ł474+Vat for new ones, also have a 10 day turnaround.

A decent mapping session makes a world of difference to a off the shelf chip, best thing I ever did as well, luckily for me my mapper is about 1/4 mile away, but I'd have travelled the whole length of the country to get dave to do it also, well worth it.
I reckon you would be better off just saving for all the bits/mods you want, doing them then just get it mapped by whoever you want, don't let distance dictate this.

Doent seem to bad, Did you mention to Kent cams about a group buy?? or can we just send two as a 'pair' even if they are both inlets as i would want to keep the standard exhaust cam??

So your prices included the VAT

No idea about re-grounded cams, they must be ok otherwise they wouldn't do them.

Did the person you spoke too not recommend getting a pair ?

if the car doesnt need any other work and its just a case of set the equipment up and map it they normally charge Ł300-Ł400. like someone else said its when they find your car is full of air leaks or your fuel pump is shit etc then the price goes up.

....first time u go it'll be more as u buy the chip n pectel board and the car is live mapped but it was around Ł400......then every time/year u go back and they check ur car over and take it out and "tweek" it, it costs alot less...think last time it cost about Ł250.....

Where I go it's the same price, Ł275 for all three maps, however long it takes, be it an hour or two days, a simple check if you wanted to check power/AFR would be around Ł40-Ł50.
Every single aspect of the car is touched even realigning the cam timing if not correct, if the op feels it should be more power, or something else is wrong.

So with regrinds, do you have to change anything else as surely the cam lobes are smaller?

You do lose some base circle, but the hydraulic tappet expands to take this up, just the same as it does when new, we are only talking a very small amount in tappet terms.
I used pinto regrinds for around 8 years, they are quite hard on cams but never an issue.

ive never atchualy herd of a 205 block shitting itself, yet you hear about 200 blocks cracking fairly often...

maybe its beacuse no one dares push the 205 block that far, im on a similar spec to steve and dont worry in the slightest

I realise the thread has shifted slightly to the block now, but that's a good question. I'm upping my set up to between 400 and 450bhp - do I need to change to a 200 block? What are the dangers of not doing so? I'm thinking that upgrading the cooling etc would be enough to keep temps down?

But wasnt the 200 block for the 4wd version hence needing the extra thickness to cope with the stress this may cause, i think there are plenty of 205 blocks running 400+ without issues.
