Default NEWBIE Sapphy.....

Hi everyone. Ok so at the age of 30 i have my first cossie. An 88plate 2wd sapphy. Its doing 408bhp and seems reliable. I have a few questions and hope peeps can help me out....

1. I dont seem to have any instrument lighting anywhere on my dash board! All the warning lights etc work just not the back lights when i turn on side or full headlights?

2. I have the bottom half of the amal valve and not the top, do i need a new one or will it run right with this?

3. The idle sometimes goes weird and then better again, flutuates between 1000rpm - 2000rpm at cold then its ok once warm? Anyone any ideas?

Apart from this its a really smart fun car and i can see why people get hooked.

the lights on the dash are a normal thing; some of mine didnt work; it will probably be wiring if its all the light

the cold start issue with regards to the idle will be the ISCV which will either need replacing or cleaning; its located on top of the throttle body

Not quite sure what you mean with regards to the amal valve

please please please, go and get the car checked out for a fueling check by someone who knows what they are doing, as you are in cheshire i would take it to Tony at Turbo Systems

As said looks nice and clean, good advice for a fuelling check, just take it easy till then, and see that the fuel pump rewire and fan rewire have been done, then do a mega service inc the fuel filter, very often forgotten as out of sight.

Hi everyone..... ok here are the videos and images of the car and what she isnt doing hehe...... Any feedback greatly appreciated

NO DASH BOARD LIGHTS EVEN WHEN SIDE LIGHTS ARE ON. I have checked the dimmer switch by the way lol. Is there a plug that could be off somewhere or a fuse blown? Its just weird how no lights are on but it signals and warns me , handbrake light etc etc ????

WHATS THIS?....Does anyone know what this plug is for, it was just lying behind the radio cassette player?

AMAL VALVE... OR WHATS LEFT OF IT. Do i need to get another or is this ok as it is.

Thanks Everyone and hope to meet you at some meets this year

Hello and welcome nice looking saff, likewise about meets

The Amal valve (Solenoid) is missing you actually only have the casing. You would need another soon as you can't buy the two bits separately. That is actually very dangerous as you have no boost control at the moment.

There should be a black electrical plug which connects to amal valve which I can not see in picture so see lying round near the slam panel.

Idle issue I have the same issue with my car I just disconnected ISCV is a common issue, but ideally you would want to replace sometimes a clean with WD40 or the likes can sort.

Good advise for fuel pump wiring + filter also make sure your cooling fans work, they may have already been re wired which is more than likely.

As for lights check to see if number plate lights or back side lights can't remember which way round now work, if not will more than likely be the fuse as this protects these along with the panel light circuit.

As for wire behind cassette can't answer but make sure none of the wires behind here are trapped/exposed as this could be shorting causing light problem.

Thanks everyone..... I have just got some AVO springs to send her back up to standard cossie ride height. But they are uprated. I think it will look much better with this set up (running bilsteins for the shocks).

I got The AMAL valve and was wondering can i just put it back on and then off we go again? Im thinking of of taking her somewhere and getting a new wastegate put on and then set up properley. thinking MSD or Well Lane Turbo Centre.

As for the lighting issue on dash board..... the problem still remians but i will sort it out. By the way she is now called "Izzy the cossi" haha.

Hope ya'll havin a good day in this spring weather.

why do you want a new wastegate? or are you talking about the wastegate actuator?

you've got turbosystems on your doorstep virtually; take it there!

Hi All........... ok i got the amal valve now and was told that it best to get a wastegate actuator sorted as they tend to slacken over a while and you can only wind them out so much. So yomorrow Amal Valve and new Avo uprated springs will be fitted, then i shall call Tony @ Turbosystems and Stuart @ MSD for their advice and prices on getting the car setup perfectly. Thanky ou for all the advice and i wont be driving it hard until i have it all set up. GREAT ADVICE form everyone, what a wonderful forum this is. I love the RS scene

the spring in the actuator does go weak over a extended period of time; but please dont go adjusting the actuator rod until you get it set up

if you shorten the rod you will increase boost.....too much boost + not enough fuel in the map = bang bang engine. listen to the advise here and dont drive the car until its been fuel checked, it will all end in tears otherwise

Hi All. The cosworth is now looking sweet with her new avo springs and loving her stance (pics to follow). Also go tthe new Amal valve sorted and have booked her in to Turbosystems with Tony. MSD were alittle vague as to what would need doing and i got the feeling the price would just go up and up! Anyhoo.... Tony made me feel like i am choosing the place for her. Also got the dash board lights sorted so thanks to Marty Smarty for the advice regarding the number plate lights..... yes they are on the same circuit. Woohoo.
