Default Coolant Level Sensor - Sapphire

Has anyone installed a header tank coolant level sensor from a 3 door in Sapphire?

I would be very grateful for any advice on where I can buy the sensor and an alloy header tank set up to take the sensor? I would also like a diagram to wire in the sensor if there is one around.

Thanks

Hi mate
As far as i know the coolant level sensor was only fitted to the 3 door, but i think Por Alloy make a header tank with a removeable sight glass and they do a level sensor for the 3 door version so it might fit into the sapphire tank but would'nt know if or where to wire it into, sorry i can't be of more help.

That was my understanding also? I have sent a few emails to try to clarify whether the Pro Alloy Tanks can accommodate the sensor from the 3 door.

Thanks for your help.

The sapphy tank as said(2wd and 4wd) did not have level sensor, like the 3 doors.
I haven't seen one with the sensor in aftermarket alloy one, but me mate has all the means to make the one you want if you can't find it, including all the thread fittings in alloy for the fitment to a alloy tank, so your level sensor would simply screw on as it would on the original 3 door tank.
Easiest way to wire up would be with a LED, these take such low power to operate typically 1/20th of an amp that the contatcs on the sensor float would easily pass this, could have coloured led of your choice and flashing etc if wanted, or just keep in regular warning panel so it looks std if wanted.

As said Saphs never had and not sure the wiring would be straight forward as it's part of the Auxiliary Warning system (Same as Saph washer level) you also would need the bulb inside the car.

The question is why do you want one anyway?, the coolant is vital and should be visually checked.

I forgot about the washer level warning, you could always use this light for the coolant lever instead if you wanted ?
I must admit I never relay on gauges for stuff like this, and check mine everyday along with oil etc, unless it's pouring down!

What if a radiator hose splits while you're driving?

Good question, I guess the same as on all cars that don't have them, inc cossies 3 door apart if you don't notice in time temps going up then it could be expensive, fortunately in my electronics there is a alarm for this.
Over the years I've had hoses spring a leak, but never had a meltdown due to it

Do you still have the original plastic tank with the provision for a sensor - like the early saffs?

Bailey do a copy version of this type...

and the standard Ford sensor goes in fine

I do check before driving; however if you suffer a coolant loss while driving the first you will know is when the temps rapidly climb (remember the car is in Australia), and it will probably be too late to save the head gasket. If I have a sensor in the header tank I will know as soon as the level starts to drop, giving me a much better chance of avoiding engine damage.

I have the original black top plastic tank with the unused provision for the sensor.

I really just need the sensor.

You just gotta love Ford; apparently the identical sensor was fitted to the locally built Aussie Falcons, and can be bought from my local dealer for $15AUD (about 8 quid).

I am off to see the local parts department tomorrow.

For anyone else worrying about losing coolant then a low coolant warning device can simply be drilled into a plastic tank, been looking at some today, less than £10, and audible, they can be set for NO or NC.
