Default Alternator belt squeek

Hi Guys,

I've got this really annoying squeak from one of the belts (I think the alternator as when everything is off lights etc it hardly squeaks) I've had a look at the belts and they are pretty healthy and the teeth are still pointy so just wondering if it needs tightening or something.

Oh dunno if it makes a difference but it only starts to squeak once the engine is warm.

Cheers,
Steve

More likely to be a bearing, esp if worse under load, but try talcum powder.

Don't think its a bearing, they more wine than squeak, this is definitely a belt problem me thinks.

Thank you for the tip though I'll go grab some talc

The bearings can squeak when they get dry, after many years, mine does it often when cold and extra load, the same alt did it on my last car, but is a good one so kept it, it's very true alts do tend to whine when under load, some even rattle like a jingly chain, mine on my metro was a 45 amp acr, but when trying to draw 100 amps for all the lights I had it used to make this jingly sound, and slow down, only had 46hp!!
