is the bottom pully on the right timing marks? did you line it up with the v on the pully or the lug?

have you fitted INA tappets? not the cheap VW ones ? might have a bad batch and a couple not filling up, thick grade oil might cause the tappets having trouble to fill up, as said check timing marks, possible a tooth out!?

Its certainly quiet at the minute

As stated. check the timing is right as if its out by a tooth it will run as if the hydrolic lifters are running dry.

all new parts used throughout, timing is spot on,engine runs fine.
a few people said the same about the tappets taking a while to clear,i guess i'll keep driving it if it doesnt clear then i'll probably strip it and break the car as i've spent more than i wanted to on it and have lost interest..so there might be 3dr parts for sale soon!!
thanks for the response

my engine after 5 mins it cleared itself up. thats from first start up.

Whats the spec of your engine is it rebuilt standard or have you put different camshaffts in? Whats the oil pressure showing? 60 miles sounds like you have the timing out. Theres no way it should tap for any longer, If you take off the rocker cover is there oil in every cam oil valley.

Take the rocker cover of and whip the cams and lifters out, then turn the oil pump over manually and see you are getting oil to all oilways in the head. The oil comes across the front of the head from the inlet side so the exhaust is last to be fed. It could be as simple as a blocked gallery (which we had on Brammer's car), we blew it out with an air line and it was sorted.

I've replaced the odd set recently with BGA tappets, and they seem MUCH better than INA, they are quiet within minutes.
All the gunge and crap collects in the oil galleries at the rear of the head, so check there is no restricted oil supply.
