Cosworth fuel tank... help!!!
Right,
After being to Ford for all my bits ( fuel tank fittings ) and after deciding not to buy an original Ford one as they are £268 + Vat I bought a normal one form a body panels place.
The tank is the right one with all of the fittings but what I have noticed is the shapes pressed in on the bottom. My original one on the car has a circle and the one on in the box has Rectangle?
Which is which, does it matter? or is the rectangle one simply 'a copy'?
Or were they both fitted, as I have seen a load of cossy's with the rectangle fitment,
My new one (waiting to be powder coated)
and the original,

If you look in the rectangle you can see spot weld marks in a circle, so it seems that it has a swirl pot inside at least.
It doesn't matter which you use so long as has swirl pot, the rectangle one is what you say just a copy.
BEWARE of powder coating, some swirl pots are plastic, and even those that aren't can have plastic pieces insdie the tank.

If your sapphy is a cossie it MUST(should) have two, the smaller one is a return from the fuel rail, that comes from the fuel pressure regulator(bottom feed), this is returned to the tank, and fills the centre swirl pot before the fuel overflows the pot into the rest of the tank, done to ensure uninterupted fuel supply under hard accelration cornering etc.
On original fuel tanks, the swirl pots were made by Mercedes!!, but later tanks were made in CANADA.

It must have a fuel return pipe on it somewhere or it would'nt run properly.....
I got it from a friend who owns an MOT station. You can get them from most body panel places......
Cost me £65 inc vat
