HELP!!!!! timing an engine

Default HELP!!!!! timing an engine

gonna put my cambelt back on tomorrow after doing a bit of work but a bit worried about the timing. got paint marks on top pulleys are there any other pulleys i have to line up as i dont want to bend no valves an cost myself anymore money. any advice would be appreciated

the top pullys have to be timed corectley with the bottom pully or yes you will bend valves

You also have to make sure the dizzy cut out points at the mark on the dizzy casing, just pull the rotor arm off and its pretty obvious.

Also make sure you turn it over by hand first.

cheers everyone. looking now at the paint marks on my head and pulleys. lined them up and the points on the pulleys that are supposed to be facing each other are miles apart. one is facing the alternator and the other is facing the power steering pump yet the car run sound as a nut no problems at all.can anyone explain this as i am now baffled.

might be worth while putting on a new belt also mate if its been on a few years

Don't forget when tensioning the belt to turn the tensionser clockwise. If you tighten the belt by turning the tensioner anti-clockwise, the belt can catch on the thermostat housing, causing premature failure.
