Default Rear shims

I've heard that you can reduce the (excessive!) rear camber on saffs by fitting some shims betwen the hub carrier and the trailing arm. Is this a hard job to do? Any info would be top, cheers.

you can buy them from mike rainbird (r & b motorsport), and they come with fitting instructions.

very easy to fit, do a good job of straightening out the camber on lowered sierra's. well worth the money to improve the handling and reduce inner edge tyre wear.

I've received them from Mike recently, but looked different from what I expected.
These are the ones I received:



These are toe-in shims.

What I also need are camber-correction shims, like these:





or these:



Haven't placed them, so not sure if they'll work, but curious if there's anyone here with experience with these toe-in shims...

The camber-shims will have to deal with this enormous deviate, tires wear out very hard (6000 miles a pair ) so need them hard...



Hope some one can tell me more about the efficiency of these shims...

That's what I'm starting to think with the shims I've posted above, however I think most of the extreme tire-wear I have is because of the bad camber.
I'll try these anyway, maybe it'll be good for less sensibility in track-forming on the highway, think that's because of too much toe out...

u lost me wen u mentioned more than one camber

as the suspension on the rear dips down the camber increases(you got that bit yeah?)
when the camber increases on the rear of sierra/saff, the toe angle changes due to the geometry of the back suspension, on a std height car it only affects tyre wear whilst cornering hard and whilst under hard acceleration(when it squats), now if you lower the rear the camber is increased constantly as is the toe angle so you need to correct it i.e with the shims!
they should also help with standing start launches as the should keep the rear wheels parrallel when launching by showing the tarmac more rubber!!and decrease the dreaded squirming of the back end

pieter please post a pic mate when you have fitted the the shims
how far are your back tyres inside the wheel arch ..would this cause
more problems..mines low..




just ate the first set of treads
but will the camber change swing the top of the tyre out
my back arches arnt rolled 205.40.17 skins on the momos
i know you have been looking for these for a while
hope they work pics please

Pieter, Did you get the shims from the RHOCar site ? I know a few who have fitted them to their kit cars and it made a great inprovement to the handling. Think I'll need some for my 3door as its going very low.

Mine are 215/40/17, and is as low in the back as yours, so hope it'll fit, still waiting for an answering email from the guy from Rhocar. He says they'll correct the cambre 2,5 degree, I think it will be a tight fit
But the shims are normally 2-3mm thick, so dont think the top will swing out extremely. But I'm very curious, cause there isn't much space left between the arches and the tire by my car neither...

Haven't received them yet.
I've contacted the guy, but haven't received much info neither yet. But heard he'll need at least 5 buyers to make the shims.
As soon as I receive an answer on production time and stuff, I'll let ya know.

Just ordered a pair of them RHOCar camber correction shims, as soon as they've arrived and fitted I'll post some pics and my experiences.
Toe-in shims will be fitted next week, but won't make much of an (optical) difference I think.

hello mate there is a mod that hatherway racing do to the rear beam.they mod the points were the rear arm joins the beamso u can lower the car and have very little camber also giving u a bogger foot print of the tyre on the road and ive been told that it transforms the drive of the motor with more traction and less breaking loose of the rear end and better tyre wear.it cost more than the shims u have been asking about( bout 100 notes more) but its propper good.im gona have it done to my 3dr in jan and im running 245/35/17s on mag touring car split rims rims

The shims fit to the part of the hub that is closest to the back bumper they are 10thou thick what they do is allter the tow in and because the trailing arms work on an arch the also help the camber..

yeah still wanting had a tire puncture back drivers side fitter said
should not put it it back on cos of tire feathering
fook falkens 5 months old ..your a tire fitter not a copper
fix the puncture . .he wasnt happy but i wasnt
getting very low on the insides but in the middle ..

Received my camber wedges today. Together with the above toe-in shims it should make one helluva difference!

I'll post a before-after pic when I've fitted them, will be wednesday if this horrible weather gets better by then...
