Default higher or unchanged compression.

Hi I have a 200 block with graham goode cosworth racing standard compression 2wd pistons and a 2wd drive head

I understand that a 200 block + 4x4 pistons + 2wd head = lower compres
CAN i BE assured though that the compression would remain standard with using the 2wd pistons, i'm 99% confident in this?

I bought my 2wd pistons and was goign to rebuild my 205 block,, then a bare 200 block came up cheap.

many thanks.. DAVE

Think its some were around 7.8/9:1

but this depends on head thickness being around the 139 std (unskimmed)and the type of gasket used as a cometic is 1.3mm thick and that also lowers comp

the only true way is to measure cc's (compression)
only way comp will be std on 2wd pistons is if the head HAS NOT BEEN SKIMMED!!!!!

Also if i'm right 2wd pistons have the central piston pin design so you will notice piston slap when cold

hope this helps

cheers, yer it'll probably be around 7.9- 8.2. its had a slight skim but was standard 139mm havent measured since it had a little skim,, I told them to be easy with the skim. I phoned graham goode and the guy there said that the new cosworth pistons 2wd will cure the piston slap, when i recieved the pistons they were central.. ??

Oh well I dont really care providing i can get to 380bhp and maybe 400.
And it doesnt blow up,,, i've spent too much money..

Don't think the ofset of the pin is that noticeable but if GGR said no slap then they must know

what chip u using? u don't want det @30 psi running greys etc

MSD takes this into account when doing there's due to the amount of poor heads

Good luck

just to confirm my specs. 380 bhp.

200 Escort Cos Block. 2wd Internals.
ggr 2wd cos pistons stnd compression.
803 green Injectors
Ported Head rebuilt. stndard cams.
Stage 3 Turbo Dynamics T34 .63 housing.
Group A Headgasket set.
Rs500 Intercooler.
Water injection.
L6 ecu ,, changing to l8 closed loop in future.
inlet manifold plenum spacer = home made.
Ap racing 6 paddle clutch kit.
stndard copy stainless twin exhaust into 1
(will get mongoose or scorpion 3 inch all through).
The engine is sitting in my shed awaiting a day good enough to put into the car.

I aim for 380 bhp 350 lb torque peaks. Using greens I will be right on the border line for max out on fueling.
I require Light Blues unless a set of greys with l8 closed loop could sort me out.

The Chip is a stage 3 2wd A1 RALLY 803 CHIP at the moment.
However I will run with this until I decide what l8 can do or something aftermarket if require for the future...

JUst out of interest does anyone know what the boost range is for a
-31 actuator, compared to a -34 actuator?? The turbo came with a -34
but i couldnt get the boost below 21 psi i think (rod fully out), so I used my old -31, it felt better too.

As you say, greens will be pretty much at their limit - greys with MSD's closed loop lambda would probably be a better bet.

Why don't you consider moving up from the standard cams while you're at it ? Perhaps leave the exhaust standard, but fit a BD12 or BD14 inlet ? (you could buy the cam instead of spending the money on the water injecyion kit, unless you've already got it).

What are you going to use the car for ?

Yer thats a good idea about the inlet cam I think that will be a next thing. I was given water injection for free so i will use it to lower act's. The car will be used for fast road and odd track day, so i dont want to be revving to make power all the time,, i didnt want low compression pistons because i have driven a 3 door cossie with 7.2:1 and it wasn't very nice to drive. I read a post about the msd just wonder how much cost it will come to?

Its annoying how 350 bhp is so easy to achieve yet 400 costs so much more money in comparison.

400 bhp costs are not that much theres a car on ere with 406 bhp on greys and BD 10's using a T34/63

cost of MSD closed loop greys is:

L8 with std babyboard around £160 to £200
greys closed loop chip £350 to your spec
lambda sensor £80 to £100 the later is the small ecs cos type!!!
Pf09 TPS £80

Easy to install also good gains to be had with MSD's coilpack con then you can run 1mm plug gaps = better responce and MPG and none of that famous cossie hesitation under hard boost!!!!!!!

you will be very lucky to get 380 from greens and light blues can be a pig to map a chip for...

your best bet would be to speak to stu or kenny @MSD very help full

You can see 380bhp on a std engine running a T34/63 and greys and holding 28 psi
