A few wiring questions
hi, I've a few questions about the wiring on a 2wd saph cossie engine. its currently sitting in my garage waiting to be put into my car but I thought I'd have a go at getting it running before i put it in. I've connected up the management loom and there was no spark, all connectors and sensors were connected and all earths were earthed. I had a look at my wiring diagram and noticed that five of the wires which seemed to go to the coil and other important things also had something to do with the TFI module, not knowing what this was i did a search and found that it was something to do with the ABS, so i went up the loft and pulled out the ABS system and the loom that goes with it. connected all of this up and took the relevant wires from the 5 wire connector going to the car loom and connected the power ones to the battery, earthed everything and still no spark.its very possible that theres something stupid wrong with it because its a total mess and I cant really tell what the hell all the wires are for, i've gave it a right good checking over and everything seems to be there. i've noticed when everything is connected to power the ignition coil gets very hot beyond even touching. i've had a look through various posts on here and theres alot of talk regarding the ignition amplifier, this is connected to the loom but tbh i'm not convinced that its doing anything, ie, doesnt look like the wires are going to anything relevant to the ignition. what i'd like to do is rewire it but theres no mention of the amp in my wiring diagram, so my question is where should the wires from the ignition amplifier be going and is there any parts of the car loom that are required for the engine to spark? please note that when connected to the power and the engine is cranked over the fuel pump is working and it does seem that the ECU and its components are working, i just need to confirm what the wiring should be like. it might also help to know that its going in a converted mk5 escort and the cossie car loom will not be getting used. thanks, Tam.

You don't need any of the car loom or the ABS loom - the engine loom is self-contained, with, as standard, a 9 way black and white connector. This contains :
+12V switched (black)
+12V permanent (red/blue)
Fuel pump feed from relay (black/red)
Rev counter feed (green)
Temp gauge feed (brown/white)
(there may be some variations in these colours - if so, check with a meter against the wiring diagram below)

hi, thanks for the reply, managed to get it sorted, for some reason the ignition amplifoer was plugged into the ABS loom, just put it in the right plug and it sparked straight away, i thought it might be something stupid like that. cheers
