Ford Escort Cosworth RHD Rally or Race Car Group A/WRC Project - Built by 'Central Blast Cleaning'
It is with great reluctance that I have decided to sell my Escort Cosworth rally/race car (sold as a rolling shell). It is a replica of the last works Escorts, in WRC trim. I know I am going to regret selling this!
This would be a fantastic starting point for building a motorsport car, it has been professionally prepared, and has a stunning quality fresh paint job. It is also Right Hand Drive, so is very sought after as a result.
I have set a very sensible reserve price on this, but please do not ask me to disclose what it is. If you know your Escorts it is truly realistic. You will never find another shell like this one, the paintwork has been completed to a show standard, by professionals. All the preparation work was done at 'Central Blast Cleaning' in Banbury. Their staff is largely composed of ex-Prodrive people, and if you have ever seen any of their work (e.g. Kawasaki Green BDG Mk.1 Escort, or their latest Duratec-powered Mk.2 Escort) then you will know how good they are.
I bought this shell with the intention of building the ultimate Right Hand Drive competition car, to replace a LHD one that I already own, but sadly a severe lack of time due to a house restoration means this one has to be sold.
Please note that this is being sold as a ROLLING SHELL. There is NO engine or gearbox, and no seats or harnesses. Other than that many (but by no means all) of the parts you will need to build the car are included. Please take the time to read the specification, this is a very serious car indeed.
Built from a proper Ford Motorsport lightweight bodyshell, which has been bead blasted and acid dipped. It has been completely seam welded and strengthened. It has a welded in T45 lightweight steel roll cage with X diagonal, roof diagonal, dashboard cross bar, rear harness bar, bracing to the rear differential and transmission tunnel, plus triangulation to the front suspension turrets, and further bars for enhanced safety and shell rigidity.
It has been fitted with a pair of fibreglass WRC front wings (which are wider and give more tyre clearance), as well as a proper WRC rear spoiler. It is fully glazed (including a new laminated windscreen), and as you can see in the photos the doors and bonnet are fitted, along with Cosworth sideskirts. The bonnet is a genuine Escort Cosworth steel item, which alone is worth a small fortune.
A genuine Escort Cosworth rear bumper is fitted, and a WRC replica front bumper is supplied (not currently fitted to the car, but painted to match). The door cards are ex-works items from a Colin McRae car, with carbon fibre inserts.
The whole exterior of the car has very recently been refinished in three colours - red, white and Subaru WRC blue. The striping is all in paint, it is NOT vinyl graphics! All the paintwork was done in base coat and laquer, as the intention was for this to be a show car, and consequently it is way above the standard normally found on a race or rally car. I can supply all the RAL paint codes to the buyer, for future reference.
The interior, engine bay, wheel arches and underside of the car are all finished in graphite grey metallic paint (like the majority of BTCC cars). The paint finish is again to an incredibly high standard, even on the underneath.
There is a WRC-style vertical hydraulic handbrake fitted, along with all brake lines. There are welded in seat rails and harness eye bolts, and strengthened mountings for the front subframe and rear beam, as well as sumpguard mounting brackets. The spare wheel well in the boot area has been removed and a flat floor installed, ready to fit a bag fuel tank (not supplied). The bulkhead has been modified to allow the fitment of a bias pedal box (not supplied). The whole of the transmission tunnel has been lined with heat reflective material, which continues right back to where the exhaust would exit.
The car has Group A/WRC front suspension top mounts, complete with alloy rose jointed roller bearing units. As you will see from the photos, it also has the proper Group A/WRC welded on chassis engine mountings.
The car is supplied rolling on standard Escort Cosworth suspension, steering and brakes, which includes the 4 driveshafts, rear beam axle and trailing arms, alloy front crossmember, rear diff, hubs, track control arms, anti-roll bars, PAS rack, steering column and steering wheel.
It is being sold rolling on 7 spoke RS alloy wheels, powder coated in black, as shown in the photos.
Other parts included with the car include rear lights, mirrors, wiper motor, rear propshaft, PAS pump and bracket, heater units plus ducting and a wiring harness (and any other minor parts I find that belong to the car).
PLEASE NOTE that for obvious reasons there is NO MoT (or tax) on this vehicle.
The V5 logbook is present and in my name, and will be supplied with the car. Also included is the MSA rally car logbook, which is required to allow participation in motorsport events.
And just to make it doubly clear, there is NO engine or gearbox fitted. If it is not mentioned in the description above, or shown in the photos, then it is NOT included!! I am not selling a complete car.
