Default Temp sender on '97 Puma

Hi, I have a '97 Puma 1.7.

My temp gauge is reading beyond the red mark even when cold.
The fan comes on after 15-20 mins when running stationary, the coolant isn't bubbling excessively, the engine doesn't appear to be overheating and the heater works as it should.

I was thinking this could be the temp sender and I've been told that on the pre '99 Pumas the temp sender is found on the thermostat housing, we've looked for it but can't find it. Can anyone give me a precise location of the sender?

Thanks for any help
