My parents battery went flat in there key fob, they took it out to buy a new one and have now lost it.

Does anyone know what battery I need?

Usually a 2032 or maybe a 2025 in keyfobs.....you can get them in B&Q, most decent petrol stations/service stations.

i have a 98 escort it doesnt bother me too much as i have a alarm fob but recently the alarm keeps going mental and i need to be able to look it without the alarm sometimes

its really easy. Remove the key fob part of the key away from the key with a small screw driver then use a small screw driver to open the fob. The battery will just come out. I always bend the electrical connections a bit so that they get a good connection on the battery.

As said 2025, 2032, 2025 are very common fitments, is it a flat round one about 3/4" in diametre ?
