Hi could someone help please I have a 56 plate mondeo, under acceleration I get smoke and lots of it, I have checked the oil and there is no thick white gunk in there and I'm not losing water so it don't think it's the head.also when driving without a lot of pressure on the accelerator pedal, usually around 2000 rpm the car almost feels like it's going to stall any ideas? Thanks

I get the whooshing sound too I forgot to mention that,I'm a little anal when it comes to engines but I am trying to sort problems out at home, where is the egr valve located in relation to the water tank?

If it's black smoke and whooshing it's as per Dan's post.
EGR valve is pretty much next to the coolant tank, if looking at engine from the front it's bottom left.
Hose goes from under the valve down to the intercooler connection on the driver's side.

Found it and looked at hose's and they look ok would it be a good idea to remove the egr valve and give it a good clean with a carb cleaner? How thick is the boost hose?

The hose normally splits on the engine side, away fromt the front of the vehicle, does it look oily at all? Normally if there's an oily patch on the hose there will be a split. Not sure how thick they are, 3mm ish I guess.
If you have a whooshing there is a boost leak from hoses/intercooler.
Being a 56 reg, you may have the electronic type of EGR, normally if these have a fault they put on the engine management warning light.
With a fault code of P0404 or similar..

Euro 4 emission spec EGR.

Earlier type with vac operation and level sensor.

If it's whooshing, and blowing out black smoke it's almost certainly a boost hose. It's highly likely to be the EGR to Intercooler hose, but could be any one of the other hoses.
If it is the EGR hose don't buy one from Ford. It will cost upwards of £90 and it WILL go again before long. Get a Silicone hose off eBay for around £35. It will last for the life of the car.

Thank you for the help guys, I have done a repair job on the boost hose with specialist tape from an auto parts dealer. The whooshing has gone but now get a high pitch squeal ( like a belt slipping which is not the case) I was wondering if there could be a small split elsewhere also I don't seem to have power under 2000 revs, the car seems to want to stall any additional help would be great

Are you sure it's not a belt, or the aux pulleys that are squeaking?
