Mondeo ST Tdci problems
Hi
I am posting this on behalf of my son.
He has a 2004 ST Tdci, car currently has 152k on the clock but has a massive service history, very well looked after etc.
He was out the other day and put his foot down in third gear and the car started pulling back. He then put it in fourth to see if it was the same and the car lost all power so he turned it off then back on and was fine.
It is still running fine now until he gets over 3500 revs and it judders. The glow plug light is flashing also.
He has had it on the computer and the code P1211 & P0251 have came back which leads us to believe it is likely the injectors. He has been offered a full set of a 69k ST for £350.
I am posting this hoping for some help.
Do you think it is definitely the injectors?
How much would he be looking at for a garage to fit and code the injectors?
Is it still OK to drive as long as he takes it steady, It drives fine otherwise.
Thanks

P1211 and 0251 are two of the most common codes on the TDCI. If anything it's more likely to be pump (or inlet metering valve) related rather than injector. When injectors die they usually (but not always) bring up individual injector fault codes.
The worst thing you can do now is just replace parts at random. You could very well find you swap the injectors (expect around £200 for fitting and recoding) and it's exactly the same.
By far your best bet is to take it to a Diesel specialist (preferably a Delphi dealer) and get them to diagnose it. They can check the injectors and pump to see what is at fault. If you don't get it properly diagnosed you will end up replacing parts at random, it will cost you a fortune and you will regret it.
Cutting corners now will cost you in the long run. Been there, done that, and have seen a LOT of other people do the same.

Thanks for the reply.
I changed the diesel filter yesterday as I have read that on some cases this was the problem. It seems to have cured it thank god!! I have done about 80 miles since and it is running spot on. The garage I went to who plugged it in where sure it was the injectors, Just as well I didn't say go ahead and fix it!
Fingers crossed its all done now..

I bet A LOT of un-knowing people have paid for new injectors when the garage has probably just fitted a new diesel filter or similar.
Car has been spot on otherwise so I am hoping that will be the last of it, I will run some injector cleaner through it and hopefully that may help them a bit.
