Default Mondeo Revving

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a problem.
I have a 1997 1.8 Petrol mondeo and it starts and runs great. but occasionally when I am at lights etc ( with the clutch in or in neutral) the engine revs on its own. The idle speed is set at at around 900 rpm but when it does this, it revs between 1000 to 2.500 / 3000 rpm. it does this for a few minutes then cuts out.

The really strange thing is that it seems to do it quicker than if I did it with the throttle pedal. Its like the responsive throttle of a bike. It doesn't do it all the time and theres no pattern to it. Its not causing problems at the moment, but I dont want regret ignoring it.

I would appreciate any ideas as the manual doesn't offer any solutions and I'm trying to avoid the garage.- Thanks

Well to be honest I've not done much. ive priced them up sort of and looked in the manual, and thought yes got to do that soon.
But whats really odd is that since I asked it seems to have got worse or maybe its my imagination. Im a bit short of money at the mo so it might not get done for a week or two. What do you think about one off a scrapper? is that an option or should I just buy new? Sorry if I am pickin your brain, but I need all the help I can get! Cheers

I ain't got much of a brain so your ok! I only know coz i just had this issue on her focus.

You could try one from a scrapper, but i think it'll be a false econemy. The ones on ebay seem cheap enough mate.

You could try taking it off and cleaning it out with carb cleaner. They just tend to clog up with gunk inside.
