Default ST170 Tacho correction

If the Tacho 180 degree sweep stepping motor and its instrument face were replaced with one from another model with a larger sweep can the ECU be reprogrammed or tricked into giving an accurate reading with the new clock face?

Sorry for the duplication, for some reason I'm not allowed to delete it.

I don’t think you will be able to recalibrate the ecu but you can interrupt the signal to the dash with a speedo healer and calibrate it how ever you like. They are really common on bikes when changing wheel size or sprockets. But they are not cheap.

ive just picked one up to play with this weekend if the weather stays dry. I’ve changed from an mtx75 to a Mt75 and it’s reading around 5mph at 60.

That's good thank you. I was thinking of mounting the clock faces and their motors remotely as separate instruments anyhow and the job then would be even easier.
Cheers

My idea will only work for the speedo only anyway and not the tacho.

Oh B*gger!
Out of interest how does a digital speedometer and its signal differ from that of a Tachometer?

The dash is early can-bus on the St170 with few direct sensors. All the info is on the bus.

The gearbox speed sensor could be interrupted. But not the tacho.

I'm trying to get my head around what CAN BUS is but after a search maybe I understand a little.
If the gearbox signal is modified it would only affect the speedometer whereas if you were to alter the signal from the crank sensor it could alter a number of different things like the timing etc etc that would share this information.
Thanks again
