Hi, I have purchased a 2002 Ford Focus ST170 as a project car, but I am having some problems. I can't put the car into reverse and in order to drive off I need to start in second. Also, the gear stick is very ermm.. flimsy could be the word. If i moved the gear stick to the left, just below gear 1, it will stay there if i don't move it. Please help me as I am trying to get the car back on the road ASAP. What could the possible problems be?

common for the gear cables to stretch also common for gear selector to be wear causing floppyness

I would get it diagnosed fully first before spending any money, I break st170s and can supply you parts but you need a professional to look to be sure

 

The ST17O i have at the moment was the same when my mate had it. It took me 20 mins to adjust the cables and road test it.

Remove the air box and you will see the adjustment clips on the cables. Pull it out get someone to hold your gear stick in the middle and push the clip back in.
