Question Focus ST170 Running issues

Hi all,

I've got a standard ST170 but recently the car is massively over fueling and eml has come on stating the following faults to the point that I can watch the fuel gauge move whilst driving like an old man.

PO141 Heated O2 sensor - heater circuit malfunction
P1132 Lack of heated O2 sensor 1 bank 1 switch indicates Rich
P1518 intake manifold runner control stuck open.

I got a diagnostic company to come and have a look and the blurb below is what he said.

Erase fault codes, monitor live data and road test. Intake manifold runner control found to be working but fault code re-logged, indicating a inlet manifold fault, manifold requires removal and inspection for further diagnosis. O2 sensor found to be working but showing rich (probably due to intake runner fault). Post cat o2 sensor showing heater circuit fault.

I replaced the post cat sensor last year so will get that done under warranty but I noticed when I took it offer earlier today a lot of fuel like liquid under the inlet manifold. Many opinions vary but I would value more from anyone who has experience this issue as well. The car still flies but drinks fuel like crazy even if not pushed hard.

The tech suggested I buy genuine new ford O2 sensor £155 plus vat and a new inlet maniford £230 plus vat eek!! But no guarantee that is the issue....

Does the inlet manifold have a gasket? Could it be more likely I've got a split hose somewhere? Or could it even just be a loose connection somewhere and its now a chase of hunting this down?

Thanks for any points of view as I'm at my wits end.

lambda sensors are very common on these. they eat them. the other big common fault is the imrc,(inlet manifold runner control) the p1518.

its the control unit for the dual stage manifold.dont buy a new inlet manifold because its not that. theres plenty on google about them and even fixes for them. if you google where the cable goes to the inlet manifold you can check it works.

when the car starts the cable should pull and hold until around 5500rpm then release. if it doesnt pull on start up then your diagnosis of stuck open is correct. the car will run like this all day long but you will lose torque low down. above 5500rpm the car will run as normal. as for the fuel leak i cant help with that. further investigation is needed.

if your on facebook join the ford focus st170 owners club as you with around 1500 members you will get all the help you need
