Smile another project st170

just bought a 03 focus st170 £500 a few little things wrong nothing ott though mainly sensors half of which aint connected
so im just finishing my mk2 escort project off and im in need of another one
i have been flicking though pages on here when one caught my attention by karlos g and his turbo build in a rst, now i know its done in a rst but wouldn't it be pretty much similar in a mk1 focus
from what i have read and info i have gathered

  • id want to keep the vct so will need a control for it
  • will need to use 1.8mm gasket
and oil feeds and drains ect
  • and design a intercooler system
  • when done will need a remap
if this is the case then can i just follow his thread using rst turbo and manifold with custom down pipe to the exhaust system and the above

You will need engine management that is capable of running a boosted engine and controlling the vvt, unless you delete the vvt. But the need for management is still there.

Also you need it mapping to suit having a cat converter fitted unless your gonna be having bent mot's done on the car.

Very interested in this as I'm looking for ST170's to base a turbo project on. Main sticking points I've come across are intercooler installation and - as you do - I'd ideally want to keep the VVT as my feeling is that it could be used to get better low down/off boost performance. Spoken to a couple of places known for Zetec Turbo conversions and they've suggested ditching the head for a standard black top, but don't really want to do that. Seems a shame to loose a good feature of the engine.

Cheers.

you can get a box that controls the vct i was thinking of a top mounted intercooler with a bonnet scoop a mate of mine is doing a conversion on a normal blacktop will be popping up to have a look next month should be straight forward with the st just need the management to control all

any info will be highly appreciated

motorsport electronics do a box for the VVT control. just piggybacks the cam and crank sensors. ~£250 easy to wire in.

omex 710 i think will do the lot including the turbo bits although you'd need to check up on that.
