You can get an ST170 for less than £1k now so I doubt very much that their value will ever go up.

13k made is by no means rare, maybe in 30 years from now ir would be worth more, but doubt you will be seeing much increase in value any time soon

id say any car will eventually become rare over time, its wether you want to keep the car for that long. id say for an st to start going up in value due to its rarity you would have to wait atleast 25 years. if they had only made 500 then the amount of years would come down but even then not by much. look at the escort gti as a comparison as the st is pretty much a focus version of the gti, over shadowed by the focus rs

An ST170 estate could be classed as rare as there arnt many around, but not a 3dr / 5dr.

The ST value will drop to around £150 then rise to maybe £200 with a new MOT & Tyres so I guess your mate is right a 33% rise somewhen in the future.
Being rare dont make a car valuable. Only 2 GSM Flamingo 1600 Sports imported to the UK & Gordon Murray had the other one. It was mega mega rare but that didnt make it mega valuable . Its desirability that adds value not rarity.
