Default st170 noisey engine !!!!

Hi

I have had my st170 for a bit and there are a few niggles with it the one that I am aiming my attention at is the noisey engine it sounds like the tappets are shot....sounds like my old xr3i from years ago !

I kniow these are supposed to be slightly noisier than other zetecs but my mates one is silent mine has done 80,000 its just hasd an oil change which I thought would of cured it but hasnt !

any ideas if the tappets or lifters tend to wear or what it could be ?? been hearing feeww people mention inklet ? but would this sound as mechanical as tappets ??

scratching my head and its annoying me !!

Also it seems a bit hesitant when putting foot down so could this be linked atall ???

help please would be great !

cheers
Ryan

As you already stated the top end is noisey as standard due to solid lifters. The injectors as noisey too. Worst case is the lifters need a re shim but thos should not be needed till after 100k get a feeler blade and check clearance to be sure. Mine is not very tappy to be fair the injectors make the most noise. Hesitation could be coilpack or fuel pump

Oh and the inlet can cause ticking if the imrc fails the cogs in the unit get mashed up and click together. Check the inlet switches its runners when you start the car

admitidly the injectors are on the noisey side i had a listen last night but still some noise coming from the engine itself it seems

As for the hesitation i think i will see what happens with new plugs and leads i guess

The standard leads are very good, better than the aftermarket so called upgraded versions so i would be suprised if these are at fault, buy ford plugs they are the best if not a bit pricey at about £9 a plug, ford parts uk do a good deal on 4 ford OEM plugs for about £25 plus VAT
I doubt its the above, it will be the coilpack or fuel pump, im always suprised to hear of all these ST170 engine problems, apart from the clutch mine has been golden for 3.5years now not a single issue
