Save up and buy a focus rs lol....seriously though unless you spend big money on throttle bodies or supercharger/turbo engine wise there's little point bothering as they're well tuned as they are! Exhaust & filter will make it sound nicer....

Depends where you want to end up, a simple ecu swap and mapping session works wonders as the VCT is not at all well controlled with the ford software/ecu.

Will there actually be much in the way of power gains from just an ecu swap though? I'm assuming the characteristics of the engine may change for the better with proper control over the vct, but would you need to be running itb's to see real performance gains??

The thing is an ST170 engine started life as a 135bhp blacktop, so it has 35bhp overstandard already. ITB's usually give gains on their own of around 40-50bhp on a 2litre engine with cams so your only really looking at power levels of 185-190ish once you have removed some of the stuff that gave it more power in the first place to fit the ITB's
Listen to Tabetha he knows his stuff, aftermarket managment is not cheap but will get the best out of what you got and if you switch to forced induction or ITB's in the future then your managment will be able to handle this already unlike the standard black oak

Replied on your other thread, theres not really alot you can do as I and others said as the engine is already in a highly tuned state. Aftermarket ECU will be mega money for little gain!

Personally from what I have seen the Ford VCT is useless, there are some applications where it makes a huge difference, VTEC for example although given this is a slightly different principle.

I would stick to sourcing a leather interior from the RS Focus and swap it over (if you have a 3 door ST170), change the alloys over to the 17 inch MP3 jobbies and finally change the interior switch illumination to Blue LED's; clock, elec windows, blower controls & aircon/heated screen switches etc (done this in my 1.6 Chic ltd edition & looks mint!)

best way to improve the st170 is to improve the handling stick some eibach springs dampers and arb's on it and you won't be disappointed
