You can but you shouldn't as the turbo won't like it. It's a GT series turbo and will be damaged if you run without the recirc or a DV.

Jim,

Just a word of warning!

In my opinion mate i would not go for the dump valve option.

Ive heard many people (including a close friend) who has had one fitted said that the car will occasionally cut out.

The friend that has got the dump valve fitted had another problem with the engine management light coming on when driving. When taking it back to a Ford dealer under warranty, they said "sorry, its not covered as this car has not been left standard"

It may make it sound sweet mate, but i bet your language wont be sweet when your at the side of the road.

True the occasional cut out - i get this on mine - the Engine management light does not come on on mine tho!!!

It's because it causes the rs to overfuel slightly, u'll get some popping from the exhaust on lift off from high revs as well.

The stalling only usually happens if you are at high revs and then dip the clutch to change down - only happens to me at really low speeds - the cars revs drop right off and just stalls it.

I just hit the button and off we go again - Bluefin will cure this tho!

It's cool mate, quite litteraly!

It's a nice piece of kit but there's plenty of other thing's I would do first, that was my last mod.

A few (rubbish) pics....

I have the GT28R with 0.42 compressor (yes the small one) running no dump valve chatter is great, have had no problems at all and have been running for a year, even PE 400BHP focus runs no dump valve with the GT28R (0.60 compressor) i now have the GT2860RS (.60 compressor, and 0.84 turbine) and have no plans to put a BOV on either.

High powered jap cars run GT series turbos with out BOV, no matter the bearing turbo manufactures dont recommend running with out a BOV as the compressor will go into surge when you close the throttle butterfly and can cause premature turbo failure, but the most damaging surge is when the turbo compressor is too big to spool up on a small engine.

although chatter isn't recommended it sounds better then any other BOV ive heard

Would the power gains still be good on the std exhaust?

The standard system is 3" diameter all the way through ya fookin clown. The only restrictions are the silencer boxes!
But you wouldnt know that not having an RS Focus.

Best bet is the decat mate, though IMO the biggest restriction on the FRS exhaust system is the manifold itself.

I'd like to think mines running 280ish, so you shouldn't be too far behind, maybe 10-20BHP less for not having the full K&N + exhaust + cooler?

The Elmer supplied manifold is the original manifold that was to be fitted to the FRS, but they suffered from stress cracks late on the testing and a hurried cast manifold was made.

Saying that, nobody I know that has fitted one has had any problems with it.

I heard from a reliable source that Guido gets them from Wolf Racing, in which case I suspect they're made by them, copies of the original. Lost count how many times I've heard Guido say 'two left'.

If your worried about the ellmer failing... How about a Primary Designs set up? A friend of mine has the Manifold and De-cat and they look the business.... Formula 1 welds and the right dimensions for even gas flow...

Rob at SCC Performance did a lot of development work on the tuning of the Focus RS when he had his from new. 325bhp was the result before selling up but there was more to come had he decided to hold on to it.

SCC are on 01727 867747

Is pretty much the same yep.

I believe Rob had a mild steel one that they used to supply years ago which was pretty similar.

The PD is without a doubt the one to go for but I just couldn't afford it, especially for a very similar power increase.
