Has anyone heard if the RS/Cosworth version is still on hold. I would love for it to go ahead, but am quietly afraid that if it does I'm gonna have to find the best part of 30k from somewhere

Yeah thats what I thought, but read some ford head honcho in a magazine saying in it had been put on hold not been cancelled, after the positive press the ST had received.
Wonder how many ST's have been ordered by now...

ford did say that the new rs focus had been cancelled. this was said so they could release the new st without the press asking where is the rs, as this what happened when they released st170 back in 2002 (i think they learned a lesson ).

Yeah RS is now sadley dead...
ST is the new face for fords high performance now, they said everything is done by ford now and no outside companies helping like the FRS had.
But give 10years and i bet it RS comes back with something special...

As far as I am aware Ford no longer own Cosworth so the Focus Cosworth is not going to happen. I was told by a Ford salesman that Ford have told them that there will be no more RS models and that ST is the new fast ford badge. A real shame if this is true but it will do wonders for the prices of the FRS in years to come!
I own a FRS but am not against changing my car if something I like better comes along. The ST looks to me to be a bit of an XR if you know what I mean! Ford will make as many of them as they can sell and it looks like a normal mk2 focus with a few bits on it. It may well be a good car and if people prefer it over the RS then good luck. For me it just doesn't do it!
I can't see the SH values of it holding up particularly well if the availability of it is going to be high in 18-24 months time. The FRS however may slump a bit in value now as people change over to the ST but in time to come they will be in demand and the prices will rise. Just look at previous RS models. With only approx 2500 FRS in the country to start with they will become hard to find in good condition within a fairly short time.
I hope that the monster 300bhp RS does appear but I doubt it cos it would cost ford too much to develop and if sales of the ST are good there is no need for them to do it now that they do not need to build the car for homologation purposes.
Good luck to any perspective ST owners but I will stick with my RS.

I have driven both back to back and in my opinion the FRS has the edge in the smiles per miles factor

I know this probably isn't going to go down too well(how boring would this forum be if everyone just agreed with each other) but I think the ST is a much better package than the old RS.

In the ST you don't have to fight some ridiculous battle with the steering wheel everytime you nail the accelerator to the floor, it doesn't try and launch you off the road when you hit a bit of crap tarmac when your giving it some, it goes round corners really nicely, it sounds nicer and I think its much nicer inside. The seats are fantstic and you get stacks of kit.

The engine is a real peach, there isn't any discernable turbo lag and max torque arrives at just over 1500 rpm and stays for ages. Also as a wise old man once told me, there ain't no substitute for cubic capacity, I reckon he was right.

Some say that the RS looks better than the ST, which may or may not be true (beauty being in the eye of the beholder and all that) however at least I get a choice of what colour ST I want (electric orange ta v much ) which at least gives some individuality and anyway, even if they did build a new RS, it would still look like a mark 2 Focus cos it is, accept it!

Some people are saying that the ST won't hold it value as well as an RS, this is yet to be seen. However when with just a wee bit of effort you can get a top of the range ST3 for 16k or even an ST1 for a little over 14k (try autoebid) its a bargain.

I'm not trying to slag off the old RS,it was amazing when it first came out and is still a cracking car today, but times have moved on there is a new boy on the block, it does the business, I think it looks fantstic, its cheap and best of all its (mostly) a Ford!

I was told by one of the RS Team developement people on the Ford stand at the motorshow a couple of years ago that there would be no more RS's, that was just after the flop of the Fiesta RS. So, not just by some dealership salesman who, is reality, know nothing more than Joe public.

And, I'm sick of hearing the FRS being slated for the torquesteer, infact, it's quite laughable as it really isn't a problem, the car in general is just an involving fun drive which never fails to make you smile.

Hi Northern Bloke,
can you change the wheels on the FRS. Put the ST wheels on the RS and see what that looks like.

I think I like the ST wheels a bit better after seeing them on the RS but still prefer the RS ones

Dunno yet, will probably go down to the showroom one weekend soon - gotta try the car before you judge it. I don't expect it to be as sharp as the RS but I bet it's a cracking car none the less.

As for the changes I use Photoshop - for tips and tricks go here

If you want to have a look at a CGI version of the RS (and in Orange, Red and White) pop over to Turbosport and marvel at Dave 3d's work

You cant beat the RS in the looks department, thats for sure . Iv`e had one of these and was impressed with the way it handled. When they said the ST was quicker by ten seconds on the test track i ust hsd to have a test drive . I was suprised how much torque it had in every gear, the car had as much road presence as the RS, but cos it is a wider car seemed more responsive. I was well impressed with the car to be honest, but at the end of the day it`s not an RS. So thats where the argument ends i think, as good as it is, it doesn`t bear the badge of sporting history..LONG LIVE THE RS

Default FRS

Just like to point out that the ST is just another production line car that rolls off the line that can and will be produced in absolute thousands.

The Focus RS was production line to a point, then taken off and modified with around 190 unique parts that you wont find on any other standard focus, and also there was only around 5000 of them built so they are pretty amazing one off cars, I think anyway! Further more the Focus model that is the RS, Ford designed from the floor up ie, from scratch, the ST is a Volvo chassis and Volvo engine. You just won't see a 2.5 Volvo engine compete in the WRC. Need I say more?

Bottom line I'd rather be 1 in 5000 than 1 in a million.

I was talking to a chap at the ford garage, who told me that all the new st focus cars are to be recalled, seems they made a mistake calling it the ST and it should have been the RS.

A asked him to prove his statement, so he got his mum and dad over to confirm this, but got in to trouble for talking to starngers.

LOL............

Nathr, congrats on learning how to read kidding.

One way or the other, at least us blue oval types have something to argue the toss over which is a lot better than it was a year ago.....
