Default Focus st170 tuning pls?

Hi, I am purchasing a st170 for my daily runner about and wanted to knw if there are any worth while mods like a remap or induction or exhaust that these cars benefit from? Not had a st170 before and don't really know much about the tuning scope so all help is appreciated, and I have tried using the search function and not really found any help.
Thanks

Tbh mate. It's a tuned 2.0lzetec engine. So its already tuned to the bollax.

Only few things you can do
Cam kits
Spupercharge it
Dreamscience or something like that

All costs alot of money and probably not worth a wank coz the price

"tuned to the bollax", what a load of rubbish plenty to be done still depends on budget though ?, aftermarket ecu can make big gains from the vct alone, though some morons turn it off!!

Bullshit. Aftermarket ecu gains no more than 10bhp.
What a load of rubbish

What I was trying to say is you can't take it to a rolling road as standard and get it tuned as it already is tuned.

Unless you buy decent ecu

Ok is there any things that are worth changing on the car that won't cost a lot and worth doing?

You can fit an adjustable cam pulley on the exhaust cam and get it dialled in and that should give you a gain of somewhere around 10bhp. You can get that done for under £300, speak to Torque of the Devil. A remap will help too but won't give you the same gain for your money.

What was said earlier (and taken the piss out of) is kind of true, there aren't huge gains to be had from the normal tuning routes as they're already very well tuned - induction, exhaust etc, even the standard cams are pretty lairy.

There are various reasons why some tuners, in some applications turn it off. I certainly wouldn't call any of them morons.

But there's no way they're 'tuned to the bollocks' like the fool said. Better go and tell the guy that's compound charging one that it's already as powerful as it'll get!

Also the fact he called Tabetha's advice bullshit, when almost everyone on here know's that tabetha know's what he's talking about...

LOL compound charging will obviously give gains and is NOT what the OP asked! What he DID ask is about typical tuning which as correctly stated being a performance engine are pretty well equipped!

Mods worth doing:

-Full cat-back
-Dreamscience
-Exhaust cam pulley and setup
-Under drive pulleys

That's about it. From there on you looking at big bucks.

It does make me laugh how some people on here really think they know their stuff and try and take the piss even though what I said is correct

If you want 40+ bhp then you need to start spending serious money

You've made my day you really have you thick cunt.
Where in the OP did he say he wanted big power? As pani k has pointed out, the car would benefit from a few choice mods. Any n/a car is going to need money thrown at if for big power, but most respond well to simple things. The thing that makes me laugh is your 'tuned to the ballax' (it's 'bollocks') crap that you posted. Oh, and the fact you quote things to try and increase the size of your e-penis, and make your worthless little life more worthwhile, while you sit there with no answer against my argument, having to use other peoples responses in an attempt to say I'm wrong.

Say I know nothing about tuning all you like, atleast I'm not the one who thinks a focus engine is a highly tuned race engine

Oh look, still no answers just an attempt at an insult. A 2bob cunt, it's been ages since someone's used that phrase towards me, what do you think you are? Some east end gangster in a movie or something?

P.s, I'm not going to bother replying to you anymore, so you can continue your attempts at abuse and redeem your internet hardman persona without me interfering.

ok first of all im not the one who insulted you first.

if you look back brains then you would find you clearly called me a cunt with no life.and like i said you are just an internet nutter.

also no im not a east end gangster and dont think i am. im from london and speak the way i do coz where im from, that doesnt mean i think im this and that. you are clearly ignorant and imature to say things like that.

like i said before you are clearly a internet nutter and dont bother replying, if you wana reply pm me instead rather than showing off where every1 else can see what you are typing.

I have an ST170 and have tried to tune it a little, for a start your lucky if you have anywhere near 170bhp, expect standard power to be around 160bhp maybe as low as 155.
I have a 12lb aluminium lightened fly with kevlar stage 3 clutch, CFM underdrive pullys, CFM exhaust cam gear retarded 8degrees, ported throttle body, dream science map, K&N typoon induction kit and mongoose cat back exhaust system and mine only made 189bhp before the recent cam adjustment. I have spent quite a bit on parts but saved money with fitting and set up as i can do this myself, but even so i feel it was money wasted. Also as a daily runner expect between 20-30mpg if your lucky, mine does 18-22mpg average

Thnaks for the advice , I only want basic mods not to wild as I will be using the car for daily runner,
What is the dream science like?
And does an exhaust make the car sound better or just noisy?
Also I was told to avoid induction kits as the engine produces too much heat is this true?
Cheers

Dreamscience is probably the best ECU flash map you can buy for it. DS are very very good especially for the Focus. Exhausts there are a few to choose from. Millitek or Powerflame make a nice sound without being loud. Avoid open cone SHORT intake induction kits. My advice is leave as is and fit a K&N panel filter.

seriously mate there has to be something wrong with yours if your only getting 18-22mpg out of it. bad setup of something perhaps or duff sensors but my mate gets 32mpg out of his st170 with exhaust pulley mod and bluefin flash map and milltech cat back system.

morph, first thing to check is the throttle cable adjustment as a lot came with lose cables that didnt fully open the throttle body, hence the utterly useless power output on those effected. then pannel filter, milltech cat back and dream science remap (supposed to be loads better than bluefin). will be a nice daily driver at that although not huge power increase. exhaust is going to be mainly for noise as most of the power is had from the manifold and the rest of the system has been designed for free enough flow at full revs. milltech with decat does sound lovely though but seriously will only realistically gain a few bhp and that includes the decat and on a daily you may aswell keep the cat.

hope this helps, fairly cheap too if you dont bother with the exhaust. exhaust pulley if you want to do that should be done along with the timing belt and water pump.

Where do I buy ds? And do blue flame do an exhaust for the st? Probably won't do pulley as the cam belt was only done a few thou ago, but I will check the throttle thinghy. So I take it you see if the throttle butterfly opens fully? Car doesn't feel slow so if that needs adjusting then free power is all good!

easy to check the throttle mate. get someone to floor the pedal and then see if you can open the buterfly any more by hand. if you can then you just need to adjust your throttle cable a bit. with that done a standard engine should be seeing 165 bhp ish. unadjusted they can be as low as 150-155bhp!

have a search on the net for dream science mate as i dont know where the dealers are but its generally regarded better than bluefin.

Cheers for the info, I probably will go with the DS as I have tried bluefin on other cars and they are really just a beginners kit.
