It depends entirly on your budget..

For about Ł1500 you can get it running on ITB's and see some bonus BHP.

For about Ł5k you can supercharge them and see 280+ BHP

To improve your 0-60 its very simple, ditch the dual mass fly, and put a lightweight item in there with a decent clutch, my ST170 with a few mods and lightweight fly will do 0-60 in 6.7 seconds all day long. But if you want BIG power then its Supercharging or Turbo and quite a few thousands. There are no quick cheap power mods for the 170 as i have found out, i have spent over a fair whack on mine and its only around 190bhp, will be building a turbo engine for it next.

Just for the record i can reccomend CFM for a decent light weight fly wheel and clutch, i got my Clutchmasters Stage 3 clutch and fly from them, along with other things, its been faultless.
Another Mod i would reccomend is fitting a vernier Cam pully to the exhaust cam and retarding the timing up to 8degrees, car has seems a hell of allot quicker after this recent mod.

I use CFM for all my Focus SVT parts here in the US. The SVT is the same as the st170.

I have been a CFM Whore over the past year purchasing their Cam pully kit, complete set of Prothane bushes, CFM short shifter, CFM underdrive pulleys and Clutchmasters clutch and ali fly wheel. William is top notch there. Only thing is the fly wheel will be noisy on tick over and from time to time on run down. But its to be expected, it got allot worse after the underdrive pulleys were fitted. The noise goes away if you push the clutch pedal though. My old man did actually ask if my car was fucked as it is noisy at idle. Personally it does not bother me but it will be difficult to explain the noise if i decide to sell the car in future lol

Yes thats a good upgrade, i fitted powerflex bushes to my mount and it is solid, i replaced it after changing gear and booting it which caused the engine to move so much that is ripped the coolant pipes that go into the bulkhead!!

are the bushes and mounts a worthwhile mod or does it make it a harsher ride?

My ST170 has every single bush changed to Polybushes, there is not a single rubber bush left, the ride is harsher, but its fine it feels stable, stiff and planted, only real annoying thing is it can tram line due to there being no flex. Handles like its on rails

Ive got a 52 plate and nearing the mileage now where i would be expecting the clutch to go. Still ok for the time being though. However i would be interested in doing the above so what costs would i be looking at?

With a dreamscience and induction kit added to a clutch would you expect big gains? Also going to be doing the cambelt soon and ive heard theres a mod called a de-cam but i dont know what it is?

The Clutch, Fly wheel, slave cylinder and uprated clutch cover cost me around Ł600ish delivered from CFM in the states. As for fitting i did this myself and it took me a whole weekend but has not missed a beat. For a garage to do it your looking at a full days labour so could be Ł250+
My ST170 has only been on the rollers once and it made 189bhp with my mods, its not been on since i tweeked the cam timing a bit more. I assume it will still be around the same.
I did my Cam belt recently and the mod your reffering too is the fitting of a Vernier Cam pully to the exhaust cam, the inlet cam as standard has variable timing but the Exhaust cam is fixed, what you can do is release a bit of extra power top end by retarding the exhaust timing by up to 8 degrees, gains of 10bhp have been noted with this mod, i fitted underdrive pulleys also which half the load the assersories put on the engine and save another 2.2kg rotational mass. My ST170 is not what i would call a quick car, it just feels allot better and livlier to drive, it should have been like this from the factory, acceleration is great in 1st and 2nd due to the fly and will top out at a GPS indicated 147mph, which was on a private track of course.
ST170's are hit and miss, some are really down on power, others respond better to tuning than others but without spending thousands you will never reach 200bhp and i have spent getting on for 2K and im not even close.
Dream science no longer do a handset for the ST170 so if you want a map from them now you have to go direct to them for a one shot mapping session

As has been said the st170 is not an easy car to improve power wise without high expenditure.

The main advantage that it does have is that it handles well. A few choice mods to the handling can really improve the performance of the car and what you can get out of it I have eibach springs, dampers and arbs on mine and whilst it may not be the most powerful car out their it can out handle many cars with higher power.

I have done a few mods to the car in terms of induction and exhaust but these do not produce any noticeable gains.

Best mod I did to mine was acquiring a dreamscience stratagem handset and remapping it on the most powerful map available.

As has been said before they do not sell them new anymore for the st170 but they do come up 2nd hand or you can get the maps put on at authorised dealers.

This has been the most worthwhile mod on my car power wise as you can feel the extra power. The other main advantage is that the st170 tends to suffer from flatspots in the power curve the remap has cured this and means that it will accelerate a lot harder.

Ahhh the bloody flat spot, usually around 2200rpm, when cruising at these revs you get a flutter also which feels like your driving into a very strong head wind lol, when i had the bluefinn the flat spot was still there, dreamscience cured it
