Default miltek

hi i have a miltek cat back on my mk2 1.6, im not happy with the sound and would prefer a 5" tail pipe i was thinking of changing the tail pipe to a 5" as it is a seperate section if i do will this help to bring the noise level up abit as there would be more space for the exhuast noise to echo around im not shure if it would work that way,

can anyone help with this

doh il help myself i thought about this all day and like i say the exhuast is in 3 sections the middle section is the silencer so i will just take this away and get a pipe made so it becomes a straight through from the cat-back

would this pass the emissons test though and what sort of sound shud i be expecting

if you've got the cat on then should pass emmisions so long as cats ok and car runs well...silencers have no effect on emisions just noise.

by having no silecers though it will be fucking loud and on a long journey will drive you insane. i'm no mot tester but if its insanely loud they may fail it!!

i have a mk1 2l focus with 4-2-1 manifold (acts as a decat too) and milltek cat back (only the one big silenceer) and thats about 98 dB at 5k and is really loud on motorway runs so i'd advise against ditching the silencer completely. still wont be asloud as mine though if you have your cat still on.

the silencer that is on there makes it sound not much diffrent to stock, i dont want it deffaning so i will have a chat with whoever makes the pipe for me about adding a diffrent silencer i was wanting it to be louder but raspy

what price do you think i will be looking at for a section just under a meter long and a silencer adding

no idea on cost mate but i've had a thought. you could take the silencer section out and rev the engine like that to see how it would sound without the silencer.

if you want very raspy with lots of popping you need a decat but either removing the silencer or welding in a smaller one in its place should see a few small pops.
