Have a mk1 5dr focus and my passenger front door refuses to lock or open with the remote locking. Cenral locking still works when you use the key from passenger side only but if this door is unlocked and you press the remote, the lock switch on the handle dosen't move and it keeps the car unlocked.Any ideas cos it'd driving me mad!

 

this worked with mine sit in the drivers seat and press both front dor locks at the same time do thid about 6times and it hopefully will work with yours.

The central locking solenoid in your door is shagged.

You're looking around the £70-£80 mark for a new one and it's a bit of a pig to do as the metalwork inside the door (once you've managed to get the doorcards and that shitty insulation stuff off) is razor sharp, the access is ridiculously tight (even more so on a 5 door) and you've got loads of little pushrods holding everything together so it's a fiddly little fucker of a job!
