Default ecu diagnostics

hi guys

im wanting to check my ecu and wondering hoqw to go about it on the focus. its been off the road for nearly a year and would like to check it
will be doing ti on my skyline and thats a light display so wondered if focus is similar or needs a computer etc. someone said blufin can, but when i map it it will be a while as looking at getting into myself.

Afrait it needs some kind of code reader. Some cars do display the fault code by various flashes of the ecu light, but not the focus i'm afraid!

scangauge, plugs into obd port that reads fault codes, about £100 on ebay
