Also the bloke i bought it off said he never used the thatcham alarm but gave me the fobs but when i've tried to use them neither of them do anything. Should they have a little light come on on the fob when its pressed?

i think the battery may need changing unless the alarm was faulty so he disconnected it. its in the boot on the left by the way.

Yeah there's a little green light that should light up when you press the buttons.

I've got my RS insured with Adrian Flux, just tell them that it's the factory fitted alarm and that should be covered as a cat 1

Ok, will do. Neither of my fobs light up. I assume that means that both the fobs have dead batteries. I cant seem to get them apart to get to the battery.

going off topic but i dnt understand why people with performance cars keep the standard cat1 alarms. My evo was fitted with a cobra as std, same as every other EVO, the 1st thing i did when i got it new was to take this out and compleately change the wiring and connection points, every little helps to make it that bit more difficult.

How did you get on?

I'm having the same problem with Adrian Flux now. They've sent through the paperwork today, and I've got to fill out a form telling them who fitted the alarm etc, even though the guy who did me the quote already knew they came with a cat one alarm as standard anyway
