depends how low you are planning on going and what condition they are in. any lower than 35mm and you will start to notice that big bumps in the road tend to make the shocks bottom out due to lack of travel. 40mm - 50mm definatly uprated shocks and any lower coilovers are the way forward.

Mine is lowerd 50mm and never had my shocks bottom out.
Coilovers would be the thing to do if you have the money but i picked my springs up for Ł80 and dropped it 50mm was easy to fit did the whole car in about hour and half.

can be a bitch to do, unless your focus is less than a couple of years old then all the nuts will have siezed solid.

Best thing to do is to put the spring clamps up through the hole in the lower arm, then inside the spring, as there will be no space to tighten the clamps up if you put them outside

Mine car is a 1999 model and it all came off ok with a bit of WD40 and a strong arm
But your right with the clamps can be a pain if you dont do it on the inside or have small spring clamps
