Default Focus RS Clutch

Hi folks,

I have just put a deposit down for an FRS which I pick up on Firday from Reg Vardy.

The car appears to be mint and comes with a two year warranty. It is a 53 plate, has had two owners and done 24k.

My only concern is that the clutch bite point is a little high - i.e. it feels uncomfortable to have to bend my knee as much as I do to release it.

Is this normal or does someone smell a rat?

Should I demand a new clutch before I collect the car?

any help much appreciated

24k sounds about right for the standard clutch to go bye-bye! There's quite a few ppl that have had to change theirs around that mark, mine lasted up to 38k....kinda proud of it!

Order the organic AP Racing clutch. Its suppose to be the same as the standard one in the Focus RS, but you'll see a biiiiiiiig difference in quality.

Don't worry, this is pretty much the only crap part of the car....

wouldn't worry unless its slipping, the frs all have a high biting point anyway, clutch will only wear out quickly if its been lauched loads with lots of power. I take it it is standard? There was a problem with a part braking and that ment the box had to come out so new clutch time anyway, but theres no way to tell until it happens, i think the car was hard getting into gear or something.

My original clutch is still going strong at 45k. My car is modded so the clutch has to handle a little more than standard power.

What size shoe have you got ?

I've been shuffling heel / bending knee on the left for over 25 years with a size 6.

Seriously, as well, what are you comparing against. I have strapping 6ft+ complaining about a standard MTX Focus clutch because they are use to a 1.8l IB5.......

Dont change it til it slips - you'll be surpised how long they can last !! Try Black Diamond when it does go, put one in my Saff Cos 3 years ago, still in there today and it comes in for some GRIEF !!

Think it might just be down to what you're used to. mine is still on original clutch (standard car) at 71k
