My 2000 1.8 zetec focus speedo some times drops to zero when driving and the engine cuts out at tickover, its intermitant what would cause this?

where is it matt.

 

Afaik it's located on top of the gearbox, £25.00 for the part or £98.00 including fitting from Frauds.

If doing it yourself be careful not to snap the retaining pin, best thing to do is pour a kettle of hot water over the area so it expands and makes removal of the pin easier.
