Hi

A uprated panel filter is the best thing, unless you wnat to spend loads of money on a Viper kit or something similar. The focus suffers from heat soak as the air filter sits behind the battery so has no real direct air flow to the filter.

I have used a pipercross panel filter and a pipercross cold air feed kit and fitted a direct air feed into the bottom of the air box.... This has made the car alot more responsive..

ESP Design have always been very good to me, and their prices are normally ver good.

You can get the K&N 57i for the 1.6.
Price all depends on if you have a mass air sensor or not.
about £60 with the MAS £95 ish without.
K&N panel is just over £30
