Default Mk1 focus sleeper project (project stealth)

Hi guys
I’ve got a 2003 mk1 focus 1.6 petrol , I want more power! I’ve been toying with the idea of building a sleeper and have finally decided to go ahead and do it , what ideas have any of you got for engines, gearboxes etc to give me as much power as possible ?

I would personally buy a faster focus as there are faster models, ever build a car you can buy.

If not then find a crashed st or something like that and swap the lot over, brakes, suspension, gearbox etc

all good and well but If I was to buy an st or something people would think it’s fast anyway hence the whole ‘sleeper’ thing but could get an st engine and box in it

I have a ST looking for a new home soon.

There are many different options depending on power level.

Power is nothing without control so don't forget your suspension brakes etc.

Far easier to make an ST look like a 1.6 than it is to make a 1.6 go, stop and handle like an st. But swapping all the engine, box, brakes and suspension from
A donor would work.

2nd page of cars for sale. Capri blue ST 170

As above it easier to start with a top spec car and make it look like a poverty spec car.

Shameless plug but I've got a mk1 focus 1.8 zetec that had a full sapphire Cosworth 4x4 engine and running gear swap. Supporting mods running 320bhp. After doing a lot of work on the car i'd recommend buying a converted car already if money saving is of interest. Doing it yourself will take a lot more time than you expect.
