Default Constant Fans

Hi all,

New to focus ownership and I have a question about the fans.

I've owned my ST170 for a few weeks now and I've noticed that the fans are permanently on when the engine is running regardless of temperature, both fans at full speed. The temperatures seem fine and the oil and water temp build and modulate as expected.

I did find what looks like a temperature sensor cable tied to the side of the battery box, I'm unsure where this is supposed to go, please see picture:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

thanks for the reply.

Yes the heater is set the windscreen yes and to be honest I dont think I've ever changed it.

I'm talking about the radiator fans by the way, just to clear up some confusion.

Its the air con that kicks in on my focus when I put the fans to windscreen and that still only comes on when the heater fan is switched on

Its the Aircon as above, when you have the setting on just windscreen the air con is always on to demist. Aircon dehumidifies in winter, don't use it above fan speed 3 though as it can crack the screen on really cold mornings.

Knock it back to screen/foot and the a/c will be off unless you switch it on with the separate button

Well thats solved the constant fans question.

But does anybody know what the sensor is for? It looks like a temperature sensor but I'm not sure where from?

Could it be a sensor used on another variant of Focus that shares the same wiring harness? So it is redundant on the ST170?

That is a Ford special bodge lol, it's an additional sensor which activates the fans when the under bonnet temps get a little hot.
