Small(ish) Mods for Ford Focus
Hi All,
I recently started doing a lot of commuting, so I have started doing nice little mods to my 2003 Focus 1.8 TDCI (115) Zetec. I just wanted little things that made me love my car that little bit more and made it more comfortable to drive.
So far I have:
- added chrome door sill protectors.
- refurbed the alloys and painted the callipers red.
- Installed O2 Joggler to replace the radio (not yet finished)
- Replaced the cigarette lighter with a powered USB and AUX
- Retro fitted a trip computer (not yet finished)
- installed 4 channel amp under passenger seat
- installed sub and amp in boot
Mods that I am looking into, but need some help with =)
- White/brighter headlights, but not xeon conversion. I was looking at new bulbs maybe? I do a lot of cross country driving and would love brighter lights. - - White (maybe LED) side lights)
- bright white LED Reg light
- white LED interior dome light
- white LED boot lighting, probably add a second light on the right in addition to the one on the left
- install arm rest
- install 2 interior lights for the back seats either side, these will come on with the front dome light.

- New wiper blades, that don't smear
- a really loud horn! For all the morons out there!
Mods that I have ruled out:
- ECU remap, I think the cons outweigh the pros. But someone may correct me
- xeon headlight conversion, legal issues and cost made me say no.
- tint windows, would love to, but I would want to go as dark as possible whilst being legal. It's hard to do this.
As you can probably tell, I hate the yellow tinged stock lights! Has anyone done any of these? Or does anyone have any cool mods they have done that you love?
I will continue to edit this post as I come across new things =)
Also, let me know if you want any information on the mods I have done already.
Thanks
JM

The rear lights shown in that vid were easy to install (some two core wire from the front interior light) link to a mini guide in my build thread (half way down iirc) http://www.focusowners-social.com/fo...=10979&start=0
And with regard to the remap a friend of mine from focusowners had got ~142bhp out of his tdci and i used to have a remap for my TDDi which was around 120bhp. I'd say go for it as it really did give mine the much needed umph it was needing, but if you do go down this route look for a map that ins't aggressive and go for one that delivers power smoother over the whole range, rather than one big lump.

Yes! You are the exact person I was trying to find. I found your build a while back but could not find it again to save my life.
I have been toying with the idea of a remap for ages. I had trouble with thick black smoke coming from the exhaust which put that idea on hold. An egr blanking plate fixed that though.
How much did you pay for your remap? And where did you get it done?

Mine was a superchips map but it was already on the car when i got it.
Ballpark figure for a remap are £400 but you may be able to find places that are cheaper as they have open days or special offers on.
The superchips map is a "generic" one (as its not specific to your vehicle, but will still give good gains) but if you go to a proper tuning company like Celtic tuning or AmD essex then they can get the most out of the vehicle (if you've put mods on it), I'll be going to a place like that for my next car once i'm at the stage for exhaust/remap.

I will definitely look into it, I don't really plan on any more engine mods (unless I see real gains for not much money) apart from the remap, so the generic one might be ok, unless blanking the EGR counts as an engine mod?
I think the first small(ish) mod I will aim for the weekend coming it headlight bulbs and windscreen wipers. What experience have people had with the different one out there? What ones would you recommend?
would anyone recommend the Philips H7 X-Treme vision bulbs?
and Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades?

Yea a generic one would be fine (that's what i was running on this car prior to the engine swap) should get about 120bhp
As for headlights i hear nightbreakers are quite good, but if your'e able to xenons would be the best way to go or even the hella projectors healights with decent bulbs or HIDs
Wiper blades i picked up a generic set of aero blades for £7 for both front and rear and they do the job, but if you keeping the car for a while the Bosch ones would be a good investment as they do last a long time.
