Default DMF changed and now engine cuts out.

Had this happen twice now today being the scariest motion at 75mph on the mway.

Had the Dual Mass Flywheel, clutch and slave cylinder replaced on my 03 1.8 tdci about two weeks ago, went to cornwall the other week and on climbing a hill in 2nd at 2100rpm (600miles since the flywheel change and no problems till then) the engine cuts out and I crawl into a hedge, glow plug light flashing. Turned the key, ECU resets and I drive off.

On the motorway this morning following a mondeo at 70mph we both went to increase speed and the engine cut out again (again around 2k RPM) Thankfully I managed to get across three lanes and into the hard shoulder, glowplug light flashing. Turned the key and the car fired up and I got to work.

So diagnosis:

Clutch and flywheel changed,
Engine now cuts out,
Cuts out around 2k RPM,
Glowplug light flashes,
Car is fine after switching the key.

I personally think that the crankshaft position sensor has been bashed and as such is causing the car to cut out.

Thoughts ladies and gents?

If the crank position sensor was damaged I wouldn't expect an intermittent fault like that tbh, it sounds like more of a fuel pressure fault to me, without knowing if and what dtc's have been stored its difficult to say tbh

Happened once again this evening when passing a van at 70mph at 2200rpm on the M1.

Engine cut and on cranking whilst rolling dials flickered and needles bounced half way along the speedo. Engine fired fine and glow plug light disappeared.

Like i say, you need to read what dtc's have been stored, to me it sounds like a possible fuel pressure/pump problem, i would be surprised if the DMF is causing it tbh

Cheers fella. Missed the above.

The cars due back at the garage that did the DMF change for a diagnostic check - it's odd that it didn't do it before the flywheel change though don't you think?

Have a feeling they've damaged a hose removing the box? Seems an odd thing to do.

No problem mate

Yeah, it does seem strange, but then again, it could just be a very unlucky co-incidence that you've got another unrelated problem as well, there's a lot that can go wrong with them unfortunately lol.

Obviously I haven't seen the car but I'm struggling to think of what they could have damaged while replacing the dmf that would give you the fault you now have, unless they've crushed a fuel pipe or something like you say?
