Default Knocking from rear

Hi all,

On my recently acquired focus when cornering hard right, I get a knocking sound from the rear. Just wondered what the most likely causes would be?

Cheers.

Is it just when going over vigorous bumps? Or crater sized potholes? Has the issue become gradual rather than just instant? If so then;

Id check the rear axel bushes, could possibly be this, either that or the suspension bushes. If its not them then you may have to invest in some new shock absorbers (roughly Ł20, slightly more expensive than bushes Łfew).

If its randomly just appeared and is loud then id check the rear anti-roll bar and rear suspension as something may be loosened, either way get it checked over asap as if its the latter of the suggestions then it could certainly be very dangerous.

The noise only appears when I take a hard right bend at speed (i.e. going around a roundabout a bit quick). It's constant, it's always been there hasn't gradually appeared.

I had a problem with an old car where when i reversed around a corner it would sound like its scraping, it was the anti roll bar, i suggest checking it.

Id check that nothing suspension wise is broken..

A visual check would probably solve it, look at all the bushes, suspension etc for wear!

Thanks for all the replies. I was doing the front brakes today and jacked the rear up afterwards to have a look at the rear suspension. The ARB drop links are shagged on both sides and the n/s ARB bush looked a bit worn. My n/s rear tyre is starting to wear on it's outside edge as well now. I'm thinking of replacing all the bushes for what they cost.
