Default Focus Newbie

Hello I have just bought a 2002 Focus 1.6 zetec ghia. I have noticed a couple of problems since bringing it home. When I have the wipers on intermittent they dont work. I can hear the relay clicking but nothing happens. Also when coming to a stop the engine seems to have a very low idle speed causing the car to shake a bit but not cutting out. Having never owned one, is this normal? Not sure if this model has heated mirrors if so will they come on with the heated rear/front screens? Any help would be appreciated!

They do idle very low when coming to a stop but so long as it dosen't stall your ok, ime the more load, i.e. headlights etc on the more apparent it is.

Yes it will have heated mirrors and they are powered on with the heated FRONT screen, incidentally the washer jets are also heated!

Not sure on the wipers, maybe a loose connection, as the relay is clicking, it would seem the problem lies after this?

for the idle issue it may be your idle control valve needs a clean but usually should be at around 800rpm on stopping. not sure on wipers mate

welcome....
there is a switch located in the plastic cover of the wiper motor gearing case witch can go faulty and cause a loss in wiper motor functions either intermitent or casuing the wipers to stop anyware on the screan or total loss of wipers
somtimes this is casused by the switch overheating when the wipers have been used on a frozen screen and forced across it.
as for the rough idle it could be the idle control valve as said

As previously said, the idle speed on a Focus is low as a general rule nething from 800rpm when at full temp upto 1200 when cold. With your wipers, my wiper relay actually went on mine as wouldnt go on intermittent but worked normally otherwise, replaced the relay (bout a tenner from Fords) works a treat now n had no probs since
