Default Mk1 Electric windows, Global closing/opening question

My Focus has electric front windows and I was wondering if changing the window relay from a Ghia would give my car the global closing/opening feature?

Have just seen this question, I'm lead to believe by a mate, if you unlock the car by the fob as normal n then hold the key in the open position in the door n in theory it shud work

Only if you have a 'Ghia', so as OP says lesser model's need modding, apparently it only applies to 5 door cars as well, I am interested in this as well, I believe it would be controlled by the GEM which I should think are all the same across the models, so it maybe just needs enabling, there is something on the net which says you do a specific sequence with the buttons of the remote to enable it?

Also it's only applicable to MK 1.5 (Facelift) models.

if it's the same set up as the mondeo, as long as the windows are programmed to operate "one touch" this should work

one touch being press the button to hold the window closed for 5 seconds, then press to fully lower and hold for a further 5 seconds, and then fully up and hold for a further 5 seconds

repeat for all windows and sunfoor if needed

works on the mondeo fine and it's great for the summer when it's baking inside and you need to ventilate the car before you get in

Only works on cars with 4 leccy windows.
My Dad used to have a very early Ghia TDDi. Was pretty much a Zetec with some wood

That never had global closing!
The Mondeo LX he had straight after did though, but it did have 4x leccy windows.

Thanks for your input guys!

Right, sorry I should have mentioned it is the facelift version (mk1.5),
5 door but with electric front windows and manual winder rear ones.
I don't care too much about the rear ones, it would cost too much and take alot of time to install electric window mod etc...

So I believe that the facelifted Ghia and ST170 have the global closing feature.

I just thought it would be cool to open the front windows with the key fob,
I love that type of gadgetry on cars and I am trying to modernise my Focus
a little.

Putting the key in the lock and turning it doesn't work on the Focus. But I know it works on Vauxhall Astras as my dad had a few

Only the drivers side has "one touch" so that is not likely to work.

I will try and do some more research on this... but if it ends up costing more than the price of a relay, then i will be slightly disappointed

all the windows you wish to participate in this experiment will need the one touch open/closing before you can do anything else

Right, ok it makes sense. Because it would activate the 'one touch' switch when holding the button on the fob
So I will update the thread when I find one...

The Focus with just front leccy windows is only one touch on the drivers side window going down, you have to hold it to make it go up

That's what I was thinking, but I will have a look at some switches from a Ghia or ST170 and see if the one touch is on the closing button as well.
Or if not, I would still try them on my car, but I have to save up a bit first

The mechanism inside the door will have to be changed too for one that accepts auto down / up. They have extra springs and microswitches etc that tell the car what position the window is in so it knows when to stop the motor. I know there are a fair few different types of mechanisms, when mine went tits up on an old focus I had took me a few attempts to get the right one from the ford dealer!
