Default Focus brake and parking sensor help please

Just bought a 2003 focus.

Got 2 problems..

The first being the handbrake doesnt hold the car, the offside works fine. Its just the nearside.
Any suggestions? I have adjusted the cable inside the car and done all the obvious things like checked the sliders work, cleaned pads off so they are free, brakes work fine. It just it doesnt stop the wheel turning, even though the mechanism is working?

2nd problem - the car had rear parking sensors. The car was in a small bump and the sensors snapped so no longer work. (ford wants £100 per sensor, and i needed 4!!!) so its safe to say i no longer have parking sensors fitted.
I know have a nice dead tone when i put the car into reverse. Any idea how to get rid of the noise? fuse?

Thanks in advance
