Default GRS Intercooler?

I'm thinking of buying a GRS Intercooler for my S2 anybody got any opinions of them are they worth getting?

Are they hard to fit and has anybody had any problems with overheating with one fitted?

Cheers.

rs adam- if you have fitted 2 fans to your standard rad you are bloking the
air flow thats probably why its running hotter, try fitting a fan switch insde
the car so you have more control over running temps.

GRS I/C are the biz,bit of a shit to fit but well worth the hassle IMO.
its a bit tricky if you are goin to mount the fan between I/C and rad,i found that
9mm of spacers between the I/C and front panel gave me enough room
to fit the fan in between the both.

GRS intercoolers wont bring down the water temps, they cool the charge air.

If anything they increase water temps coz they block the main air flow to the
radiator.

Has your mate tried checking the temp sender to see if thats faulty?

"wont be much airflow to that with them fans on the front wazzer"

The figures are good... The test car was fitted with a 'popular' alternative(shouldn't say which!) and we saw 71 degrees with an ambient of 24 deg...
this cooler never went over 54 deg. both tested on the same car on the same day..ok this car was a bit of a nail, runing way too much boost, with no where near enough fuel-but it gve us a good comparison.
The twin fans are there to make shure the water temps are stable at all times(traffic etc.) way too many people get carried away with air temps and forget the water- the best way is to have a good all round balance.
ps.. the air scoop plate on the r/h/s can be removed and replaced with our bolt on turbo cooler- If you wish!

u can still acheive a good balance of water and charge air temps
without blocking the the main air flow to the i/c by using those fans IMO,
of course.

If the figures where good with the fans i wonder how much better they would have been with out them there?

I have heard some dodgy stories that a few people who have fitted a bigger intercooler had to modify the bonnet catch, and the bonnet has flipped open when giving it stick on the motorway

Yep it does happen..... I think when I go down the large intercooler road I will get rear bonnet raisers to help let the heat out more and install bonnet pins for good measure. As much as I don't want to cut my bonnet about I wouldn't risk it any other way

Why would you need a different one for the efi?

A number of reasons. . . . . The throttle boddy is a diff size so the mfi one is 2small and on the other side which gets in the way of the air reg (on the efi its on the opp side)
