some where i read once said a dump valve helped the turbo give it longer life coz it gets rid of the air preasure that the turbo dont need. then like you said that it runs better with out. why invent the dump valve then just for the sound??

the dumpvalve, keeps the turbo spinning at a faster rate, letting it pick up quicker when you change gear ,reducing "lag",stopping the built up pressure, hindering the spin-up. you can get quiet dvs too!

I told my insurance company about my dump valve and induction kit and they told me not to bother declairing it. Try confused.com very reasonable quotes

SufRS, if you think dump valves are crap why are they fitted to rally & race cars that are turbo charged... oh and why are they fitted as standart to all cosworth turbo cars? although re-circulating!
Dump valves relieve pressure when the throttle is shut therefore avoiding turbo stall. I agree that on a road car this makes little difference and cheap DV's leak air.
They are fitted for a reason! and you can get re-circulating ones that make no noise and blow back into the inlet.

I have an RST as well as two cossies and I agree they make little difference, n can some times have an adverse effect on turbos running low boost pressure. But you can't say categorically that they are, and i quote 'shite' becasue they were developed to avoid stalling of the turbo, admittedly for engines running high boost pressures.

jesus christ a beautifull bird that loves rs`, will you marry me. lmao.
try H I C insurance. i insure my s1 with them. got track day cover and everything, at very good prices.
as for the dump valve debate if you like em you like em if you dont you don`t. me personally i quite like em for round town drivin, plus they do protect ya turbo when pressure builds up on closed throttle. especially if running high boost. dont see why everyones gettin so up tight over a dump valve
