I used to on my old MR2 turbo, but not on my S1.

I just let the engine cool for a minute before putting the car away - same job, less wiring.....

blitz turbo timer.

PROS: Acts as boost gauge. Also keeps peak boost: which you can reset at any time. Don't have to worry about running off boost for a short time before you switch off (if that's how you want to drive: I personally don't and norm run off boost before my destiniation). Looks cool when you get out of your car with the engine running, then it shuts itself off & locks the doors as you walk away.

CONS: People who tell you that you haven't turned your car off.

Fitted by car electrician. Don't really do electrics (bar stereos) so rather pay someone who knows what they are doing to fit it.

There are lots of different types & manufacturers who deal wit these. They all have slightly different specs, so pick one which you think will be most useful to you: 1/4 mile times, 0-60 capability, boost guage with peak hold, lap times.

Just don't thrash the car for the last 2 miles before you get home then leave it for a minute before you switch off....

Plus you invalidate your insurance by having one fitted as it bypassed the immobiliser circuits to keep it running and break the law by leaving a running engine unattended.....

No they don't mate. Can't find the old thread at the minute, but they DO NOT invalidate your insurance. I asked both Adrian Flux & HIC (got insurance with them both) and they both say that there are NO problems with running a turbo timer. It is not against the law & they said they would be the first to call me if it was as it would then invalidate my insurance.

It may by-pass the immobiliser, but once it counts down, the engine stops. A thief cannot drive it away. The timer should always be fitted into the handbrake controls so that as soon as anyone (thief/small child) releases the h/brake to move the car, the timer cuts out & the car stops.

Yes Daz. you are probably right on some : the ones who STILL know nothing about modified cars & won't even insure you if it's slightly modded in any way.

Seems to be about a dozen companies now that will touch modified cars..the others aren't interested at all...or charge well over the odds for it.
